The man who saved my life

Dr. Ariel Ortiz

•Dr. Ariel Ortiz, the Center’s director, is a Board Certified medical surgeon and a world-renowned expert on weight loss surgery. He trained almost a decade ago under the designer of the Lap Band, Dr. Mitiku Belechew, and has now trained hundreds of surgeons around the world to perform this procedure safely and effectively.

•Dr. Ortiz has performed over 7000 lap band surgeries.

•From my first encounter online and then via phone conversations with Carolyn left me feeling very confident in my  choice of OCC.
•I was directed in every way how to prepare for my surgery. I had to lose 5% of my body weight prior to surgery. (Yikes) It was done during the Christmas season of 2009.
•January 4th 2010 OCC picked me up at the San Diego Airport and shuttled me to Tijuana Mexico. Took me through the border crossing and made sure I was checked in at the Marriott Hotel.
•January 5th I was shuttled to the OCC surgery center. I was met at the front desk by a very nice and very professional (English speaking) receptionist. I met with a nutritionist and a Pre-op Doctor. I was given several tests an EKG and a good understanding of my post op diet for the following 6 weeks.
•At this point I was escorted to my private room to prepare for surgery. I changed into a gown and “paper underwear” HAH LOL
•Dr. Ortiz came in introduced himself and sat down for about 10 minutes explaining what he would be doing and what to expect. Answering all questions.
•The surgery room was very modern, clean and I was informed (I think) oh the drugs are very good. 30 minutes later I was back in my room. About 1 hour after surgery I was up for a walk. And continued walking about every hour.
•January 6th I was shuttled back to the Marriott where the staff had prepared broth and popsicle's for me. I left the Hotel and went for a 2 to 3 mile walk. I felt some tenderness in my stomach skin but zero pain.
•January 7th I was flying back to Tulsa.
•For anyone thinking about Weight loss surgery you need to do your homework but I think you’ll find like me, The BEST choice is OCC.

Lapband Tips:

•When you start eating solids CHEW SLOWLY
•Place one spoonful of food on your plate.
•I think the KEY to success with this is the Fills
•I did all my fills in Tijuana. Dr. So is awesome at understanding how to do a proper fill.

I’ll sum it up this way.

My daughter is going to have this surgery. I wont let her go to anyone else, but Dr. Ortiz
